Prep sports: Tribune All-Sports Award standings

Aided by second-place finishes in boys’ and girls’ swimming and girls’ basketball, the Bozeman Hawks have widened their lead in the race for the Great Falls Tribune’s All-Sports Award after the winter sports season.

Bozeman, who also earned a third-place in Class AA boys’ basketball, has 98 points, 30 points ahead of AA volleyball champ Billings Senior. Missoula Hellgate and Billings Central are tied for third with 56 markers each, with Whitefish, who started the winter session in second, just three points behind Bozeman, and Billings Skyview tied for fifth with 55.

Columbia Falls and Kalispell Glacier are another two points behind tied for seventh, with Gardiner (50) and Hamilton (46) rounding out the top 10.

C.M. Russell is 13th with 42 points, while Choteau, with their Class B boys’ basketball and wrestling titles in hand, is in 16th position with 37. Belt, the state Class C girls’ basketball winners, is 17th with 35 points, and Chinook is 25th.^.

Established in 1969, the Tribune’s All-Sports Award has been given to the Montana high school that has excelled in athletics during the school term.

Points are awarded to each classification’s top four finishers in each sport on a basis of 25-15-10-5 for football, volleyball, boys’ and girls’ basketball, boys’ and girls’ track, and girls’ softball, and on a 12-9-6-3 basis for all other sports.
