Search continues for girl missing at Headwaters park

THREE FORKS (AP) – A search effort continues for an 8-year-old Gallatin County girl who fell into the water at Headwaters State Park near Three Forks.

Gallatin County Sheriff Brian Gootkin says the girl fell into the water near the confluence of the Jefferson and Madison rivers on Sunday evening. Gootkin says strong currents create swirling pockets with deep holes.

Nearly 50 searchers from numerous agencies looked for the girl Monday. Two helicopters, an airplane, four boats with underwater cameras along with ground searchers and dogs joined the effort.

Gootkin says the search was to continue Tuesday morning.
