Lady Argos go 2-for-3 at Invitational

CALDWELL, Idaho – The University of Great Falls fell 12-2 to 15th-ranked Concordia (Ore.) in a game was completed Sunday morning after it was suspended due to darkness Saturday. UGF then defeated No. 21 College of Idaho 7-1 and Eastern Oregon 7-4.

UGF (7-5) put up five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to break open a one-run game in its victory over College of Idaho.

Abby Ricco, Alex Lowry and Kirstie Thomas had RBI singles in the frame to make a winner out of Keeley Van Blaricom, who scattered four hits and fanned six while allowing one earned run in the complete-game performance.

Larson finished 2-for-4 with a homer and two runs scored. Lowry added two hits, scored twice and drove in two, while Thomas also had two RBIs.

The Argos took the lead for good in the third inning of the win over EOU to complete the tournament. Van Blaricom’s RBI double was the big hit in the frame.

Shelby Abeyta earned the win as she scattered six hits and allowed four earned runs in six innings. Van Blaricom picked up the save with a scoreless seventh inning.

UGF returns to action with 12 games in Tucson, Ariz., March 4-9.

Lady Griz win, fall in California

STOCKTON, Calif. – The Montana Griz softball team won their second game of the season today, with a 7-6 victory over Pacific. Montana (2-12) lost to Pacific 6-2 on Saturday.

The Griz also competed at a much higher level against North Dakota State, losing 8-6. North Dakota State defeated the Grizzlies 10-3 on Saturday.

The Bison’s offense exploded for four runs in the bottom of the second inning, scoring four runs on five hits. North Dakota State ended the game with 15 hits, compared to Montana’s five.

Delene Colburn homered over the left field fence, giving Montana its first run of the game. The Griz would tally another run until the top of the sixth inning, when they scored five runs to bring the deficit to only one, 7-6.

Meggie Reitz (1-2) got the loss for the Grizzlies, allowing seven earned runs on 15 hits.

Kenzie Cole pitched her best game of the season in the win over Pacific, allowing only two runs. Cole was helped out by 14 Montana hits in the win.

The Griz were able to get on the board first, scoring one run in the top of the first inning when Lexie Brenneis singled bringing home Gabby Martinez. Montana then scored two more runs in the top of the third inning, when Brenneis homered.

Montana travels to Boise next weekend to compete in the Springhill Suites Invitational.

Lady Argos host first playoff in 30 years

The University of Great Falls will host the school’s first women’s basketball playoff game since 1985 Tuesday night when the 23rd-ranked Lady Argos entertain the Lewis-Clark State Warriors at 7 p.m. at the McLaughlin Center.

The Lady Argos (8-6 Frontier, 21-8 overall) finished fourth in league play this season, just a full game ahead of the Warriors (7-7, 21-9).

The two teams split during the regular season. UGF lost the first meeting at home January 9, 75-70, but won when they traveled to Lewiston 77-72 on Feb. 7.
