Vote here for Prep Athletes of the Week

Mark D. Robertson

Hospitality rooms are the greatest thing ever.

This is a fact well known to sports media, but the Four Seasons hospitality area at the Northern C tournament took it to a whole different level. I found myself, doughnut and coffee in hand, watching a basketball game from the hospitality room. It was revolutionary!

But those of us bearing pens and cameras didn't relegate ourselves to that crow's nest of sugary delight for long, because there was plenty of basketball going on at the Four Seasons floor, and some of it deserved up-close attention.

Three of this week's Prep Athlete of the Week nominees come from the Northern C tournament. Two more come from the Central A, which worked toward its own state tournament qualifiers not far away at C.M. Russell Fieldhouse.

Our final nominee took the court at the Eastern C tournament in Wolf Point, helping to lead Saco-Whitewater-Hinsdale's girls to yet another state tournament berth.

Thanks, as always, to those of you who nominated athletes for us.

This week's boys' nominees are:

Dane Warp, of Havre. The hot-handed junior dumped in a ridiculous 41 points in the Central A title game as the Blue Ponies came up just short in two overtimes.

•Chinook senior Lane Seymour. At just 5-foot-11, the Sugarbeeter coach's son held his own against often taller counterparts in the post. Seymour was in double figures for all four Chinook games at the Northern C, highlighted by a 35-point performance in a loser-out game vs. Sunburst.

Luke Davison, of Highwood. Davison dumped in 24, 26 and 23 points in the Mountaineers' three Northern C games as they knocked off defending state champion Box Elder and a strong Denton-Geyser-Stanford team in the first two rounds. His 23-point effort came in the final loss to Belt.

This week's girls' nominees are:

Kaylea Skunkcap, of Browning. She topped the 10-point mark four times over the weekend at the Central A tournament, where a 26-point performance helped the Indians knock off Belgrade in loser-out action.

•Whitewater senior Keira Simonson. The wing helped Saco-Whitewater-Hinsdale reach the state tournament with 18 in a semifinal blowout of Fairview. She added 13 as the Panthers fell in the title game to Circle.

•Cascade's Elsie Carpenter. The 5-foot-11 senior dominated the low block at the Northern C tournament, notching two double-doubles as the Badgers reached the state tournament. Carpenter was over the 10-point plateau in all four of Cascade's games.

The Tribune Prep Athlete of the Week polls are brought to you this week and each week by the RESULTS program at Benefis Health Systems.
