An arctic weather front that dropped into Montana from Canada Monday brought cooler temperatures and wind, but not as much snow as originally forecast.

About a half-inch of snow had accumulated in Great Falls as of late Monday afternoon, with much of it melting before temperatures dropped.

Temperatures were expected to drop to minus 5 overnight with a high of 10 above Tuesday.

Light snow began falling in Great Falls at 12:15 p.m.

The forecast had called for 2 to 3 inches of snow in Great Falls, and 4 to 6 inches at higher elevations.

Sustained winds of 20 to 25 mph were reported Monday in Great Falls.

The cold front is expected to move through quickly with temperatures recovering Wednesday and highs in the 30s and 40s by Thursday and Friday.
