Gladiators’ dress rehearsal today

Softball teams open at jamboree in Great Falls

The Great Falls High and C.M. Russell High teams will play host to the Great Falls Softball Jamboree Saturday at Multi-Sports Complex.

The competition includes all 14 of the state’s Class AA schools, plus Havre and Laurel. Games are slated at 11:30 a.m., 1, 2:30 and 4 p.m. A one-hour time limit will be in effect.

The CMR girls are coached by Lindsey Gustafson, while the Bison girls are coached by Mike Coleman.

Gladiators scrimmage today; season opens April 4

The new-look Great Falls Gladiators will take the field for their spring scrimmage today at 2 at the Paris Gibson Field as they prepare to open their eight-game Rocky Mountain Football League slate April 4 in Laurel.

The Gladiators have a new owner in Sam Hagen, and a familiar face at head coach with Jason ‘Doc” Kjono, who is returning to the Gladiators’ sidelines after a one-year hiatus battling illness.

After road games in Laurel and Belgrade (Gallatin Valley) to open the team’s 17th season, the Gladiators will have their first home game against the Magic Valley Bulldawgs (Jerome, ID) April 18 at 7 at Memorial Stadium. The team will play three games at Memorial Stadium, April 18 against Magic Valley, April 25 against the Utah Sting, and May 9 versus the Laurel Loco Express, but the team’s last game of the year prior to the playoffs will be June 6 at noon against Gallatin Valley at the Paris Gibson Field.

The Gladiators are in the RMFL AAA Northern Conference with Laurel, Gallatin Valley, Arco, Idaho Falls, Boise, and Magic Valley.

Rich Ferris to coach Frenchtown football

Rich Ferris has been hired as the new football coach in Frenchtown, officials announced.

Ferris, a Dillon native, is formerly the head coach at Montana Western and for the past five seasons has been the head coach at St. Ignatius.

Ferris succeeds Kyle Rausch, who coached Frenchtown the last three years.
