Late runs push Voyagers to victory

Mark D. Robertson

Antonio Rodriguez’ RBI triple in the bottom of the eighth inning put the Great Falls Voyagers ahead of Helena, 6-4, and did so for good Saturday night.

Rodriguez scored on the play as well after the Brewers shortstop’s throw squirted past two teammates and into the Great Falls dugout.

Danny Dopico took the win in relief for Great Falls. The right-hander tossed a pair of scoreless innings to close out the game.

The Voyagers took an early 1-0 lead on Johan Cruz’ solo home run over the left-field wall, and Great Falls added another in the third when Grant Massey scored on Landon Lassiter’s base knock.

Helena tied things 2-2 in the top of the fifth, knocking Great Falls starter Brannon Easterling out of the game, but the Voyagers bounced back for a pair of runs on doubles by Jackson Glines and Dante Flores in the bottom half.

The Brewers tied things again in the seventh before Rodriguez and the Voyagers offense retook the lead.

Bubba Blau took the loss for Helena.

Cruz continued his torrid hitting pace with a 2-for-4 effort at the plate, and Rodriguez was also 2-for-4.
