Helena’s Caferro keeps title belt with TKO

HELENA – One of the best young prospects to come out of the state of Montana in some time made his second defense of the state’s Welterweight title this past Friday night at the Eagles Lodge.

Local favorite Duran Caferro successfully defended his belt with a dominating two round display, pushing St. Louis, Missouri’s Kelly Wright to retire on his stool at the start of the third round. The match-up was the main attraction of a six bout Pro/Am show put on by H-Town Eagles.

Caferro (13-1, 10 KOs), a rangy fighter with a good jab, began the fight by quickly taking control of the range and setting the tempo. Using his stiff jabs and lateral movement, Caferro found openings for his straight rights and left hooks, countering his opponent well as Wright (4-17) made an effort to get in close. As the first round neared the end, Caferro was firmly in control, landing with precise combinations, rocking his opponent back.

With the win Caferro adds his eleventh straight victory since losing his only fight in his third pro bout three years ago and his tenth victory via the fast route. Caferro will be back in action once again August 22nd in Three Forks, Montana on a card headlined by former IBF Jr. Middleweight title holder Ramon “Yory Boy” Campas.

In the four round Super Middleweight semi-main event of the card, Three Forks, Montana’s David Otis (1-1) scored his first as a pro with a unanimous decision over come forward slugger Daniel Gonzalez, of Billings, Montana.

In the evening’s first pro fight, Spokane, Washington’s Jacob Szilasi scored a first round knockout over Belgrade, Montana’s Brandon Little Coyote, in a Jr. Middleweight match-up between two guys making their pro debuts.
