Officials confirmed that one of the two people injured in a crash on Interstate 15 in Great Falls on Thursday evening has died.

The Montana Highway Patrol said a 37-year-old Great Falls woman died Friday after she succumbed to injuries from the crash. The other occupant, a 29-year-old male, has serious injuries but is stable, according to MHP Trooper Mike Flood.

Officials haven't determined who was driving the car, but Flood said neither occupant was wearing a seat belt and both were ejected from the car when they crashed with a semi on the interstate just north of 10th Avenue South.

Flood said the passenger vehicle was exiting northbound onto I-15 and appeared to try to make a sharp left turn in front of the semi. Flood said it's hard to explain why the driver made that move, but it looked like the person was trying to get to the median.

The female, whose name is not yet being released, was transported to Benefis Health System via ambulance and the male was transported via Mercy Flight.

Speed does not appear to be a factor, but Flood said the crash is still under investigation.
