Judge denies Briggs’ request to have case dismissed

BOZEMAN (AP) – A judge has denied a motion to dismiss the case against a man accused of attempted rape.

Kevin Briggs had argued that he had been denied a speedy trial.

The 29-year-old Briggs contended he had suffered from panic attacks and depression while waiting for his case to go to trial.

But the Bozeman Daily Chronicle reports that Gallatin County District Judge Mike Salvagni ruled this past week that Briggs’ claims did not have merit.

Briggs is scheduled to go on trial July 27 on charges that he assaulted, drugged and tried to rape a woman in 2014.

He was arrested in 2014, but walked out of an unlocked police interview room. He was arrested about three weeks later in Portland, Ore.

He remains in jail on $1 million bail.
