Alex Camp Road fire 35 percent contained

Tribune Staff

Wildland firefighters had the Alex Camp Road Fire, burning about five miles northwest of Cooked Creek Campground in Petroleum County and south of the Charles M. Russell National Wildlife Refuge, 35 percent contained by the end of the day Monday.

Cooler temperatures and rain slowed the fire Sunday night. However, temperatures rising back into the mid-70s, sunshine and a slight wind Monday dried out fuels again, causing an increase in fire activity by late afternoon.

GPS mapping of the fire perimeter has placed the fire at 5,700 acres on Montana State and Bureau of Land Management managed lands.

The wildfire was first reported July 2.

Approximately 132 personnel from the Department of Natural Resources, BLM, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, U.S. Forest Service and contracted crews, including Arden Solutions Inc., have responded to the Alex Camp Road Fire's remote location about 40 miles from the nearest paved road.

The incident is under the supervision of BLM Incident Commander Dennis Crawford.
