Vote here for Prep Athletes of the Week

Mark D. Robertson

All good things, as they say, must come to an end.

This, too, is true with our Prep Athlete of the Week honorees for spring sports. Here's to our last poll of the season.

Those athletes who placed in state track and field meets over the weekend are deserving of congratulations.

Worthy of special mention as well is Conrad-Choteau's softball team, which won the first title in program history Saturday, beating Ronan.

Also, congrats to C.M. Russell's Trevor Pepin (a former AOW winner) for his Class AA title and school record in the javelin and to Great Falls Central's boys' 400 relay for its victory.

Four of this week's nominees won state titles at their respective track and field meets. The other couple of nominees come from the softball diamond, where one helped lift her team to a title with a strong bat and the other came alive both in the circle and with the bat to help her team to fourth.

Thanks for a great spring sports season, everybody, and don't be a stranger.

Here are our girls' nominees:

Ashleigh Lehotsky, of CMR's track and field team, repeated as the Class AA champ in the shot put with a mark of 41 feet, 10.5 inches in Kalispell. She beat the field by more than 2.5 feet.

•Great Falls High pitcher Marina LaRocque led the Bison to fourth place in the Class AA state softball tournament over the weekend. The senior hit .643 in the tournament (9-for-14) and pitched the Bison to wins over Helena Capital and CMR.

Michaela DeBoo homered in Conrad-Choteau's 12-2 championship win over Ronan Saturday, a 3-run shot that blew it open in the third inning. The senior catcher was behind the plate for all four of the Cowgirls' wins.

And the boys:

Koltin Haugrose, of Belt, won the 400-meter Class C title in 50.04 seconds, edging out Jordan's Connor Murnion at the line.

Chase Fossum cleared 6 feet, 4 inches to take top honors in the Class B high jump. The Glasgow senior also placed in the 200, 400 and triple jump.

•Also in Class B, Fairfield sophomore Cantor Coverdell leaped his way to the triple jump title with a mark of 42-3 ¾.

Remember to get online and vote! The winners will be announced in the Preps Plus section of Thursday's Tribune.
