‘Bonus Army’ in Washington

July 28, 1932 — Federal troops forcibly dispersed the so-called “Bonus Army” of World War I veterans who had gathered in Washington to demand payments they were scheduled to receive in 1945.

Famous Montana Mother of the Year

July 28, 1972 — Fanny Cory Cooney, one of the nation’s favorite illustrators and artists, died at age 94. She said one of her highest honors was being named Montana Mother of the Year in 1951, having raised three children on a ranch near Canyon Ferry.
