A man accused of assaulting his wife while she was driving at highway speed in Cascade County on Saturday made his initial court appearance Monday. William Joseph Williams is charged with criminal endangerment, a felony, along with partner or family member assault and criminal possession of drug paraphernalia, both misdemeanors.

Court documents say Williams became enraged while traveling with his wife and young daughter on Interstate 15 near mile marker 285 and headbutted his wife in the cheek. The report also says he punched her in the face and pulled her hair.

The charging document says the woman stopped the vehicle and Williams attempted to grab the child, so she drove away. The report says Williams had marijuana pipes on his person at the time.

Court reports say Williams is a probation absconder for improper influence in official and political matters in Lake County. His bail was set at $50,000 to run consecutive with the bond on an arrest warrant out of Lake County.
