Veterans History Project to kickoff

HELENA Sen. Steve Daines will hold a kickoff event in Helena on Saturday for the American Folklife Center’s Veterans History Project, which collects and preserve the stories of wartime veterans in the Library of Congress.
In conjunction with the American Folklife Center, Daines, R-Mont., will hold training for veterans and volunteers where he will deliver brief remarks.
The kickoff begins at noon at Fort Harrison, the Joint Forces Headquarters Building Auditorium, 1956 Mount Majo St., Helena. From 12:45 to 4 p.m., there will be volunteer training by the American Folklife Center.
Daines said the project makes personal accounts of wartime veterans accessible can be an incredible resource for researchers, educators and future generations to better understand the realities of war.
He encouraged veterans with stories to participate.
Staff members with Daines said  Saturday is primarily designed as a kickoff and training day. But  veterans interested in telling their stories are welcome to attend to learn more about the project. However, interviews will take place at a later date.

 Montana veterans who served in the U.S. military during wartime in any capacity from World War II through the present and are no longer serving, as well as civilians who served in support of a U.S. war effort in a professional capacity, can participate.
