Man in accidental shooting identified

The man involved in Thursday night's accidental shooting has been identified as David Allen Nelson.

Officers with the Great Falls Police Department were called to the incident at 4:36 p.m. Thursday in the 400 block of 13th Street South.

Police said the 42-year-old accidentally shot himself in the upper forearm and he was taken to Benefis for treatment. A woman was with him and she called the police and was later transported to the station for an interview.

Police said Nelson was a violent offender and was prohibited from possessing firearms, so charges may be filed.
