Puppy rescued after falling into mine shaft

DILLON - A 5-month-old puppy was rescued after falling into a 26-foot deep mine shaft west of Dillon.

The Montana Standard reports Chuck and Gale Robbins were doing some bird training with their dogs on Monday when their German wirehaired pointer puppy named Maggie fell into the hole.

Six members of the Beaverhead County search and rescue team along with sheriff’s office personnel responded. They determined the shaft was stable enough for a rappel rescue and emergency room physician Mike Clarke made the rescue.

Maggie suffered some minor facial cuts. Sheriff Franklin Kluesner said she was otherwise in “good shape” after her fall.
