Embracing the heavy metal look

Andrea Maeyhem Alfson is known for wearing band t-shirts, blue jeans and black combat boots.

She is wearing a shirt from the heavy metal band out of Missoula called Stone Elk with an Abigail Williams band hoodie on top. Her stuffed animal, “Kip”, is actually her purse and was a birthday present from her little sister.

She wears a Viking horned beanie to replace a pair of plastic Viking horns she used to wear performing on stage at open mic nights.

From work to home, comfort is the key

“I used to get stage fright really bad, and wearing the horns was kind of a ‘if I look ridiculous on purpose, no one will think I look ridiculous’ thing,” Alfson said. “And when some guy at The (Machinery) Row stole my plastic ones at a show, my friend got me my first pair of squishy ones and the rest is kind of history.”

Alfson proudly shows off her new tattoo, the logo of Taco Treat, her favorite restaurant in Great Falls.

“I was going to come home and get a tattoo deeply representative of what my home state means to me; something to remind me of the things I miss about Montana when I'm away; a piece of art that I could cherish forever, but also one with conversational value,” Alfson said. “Nailed it.”
