Tuesday's Regional Briefs: All-State softball team

Hartman, Konesky, Enott, Schaffer honored

Four Electric City stars have been named to the Class AA All-State softball team.

Senior catcher CJ Konesky and senior outfielder Hannah Schaffer of Great Falls High were honored. Also named to the All-State team are senior pitcher Quinn Hartman and senior outfielder McCall Enott of C.M. Russell High.

Those four were also named to the all-Eastern AA first team. Among those receiving second-team all-Eastern AA honors are Katie Huisman, Myla Robbins, Savanna Voyles and Courtney Schroeder of CMR, and Tierney Weinholz of Great Falls High.

CMR Football camp is in July

Registration for the "R" Football Camp is now open to middle school and high school kids.

The fundamentals of football with be taught, including emphasis on running, throwing, catching, blocking, tackling and kicking.

The high school portion will be contact with full gear while the middle school will be non-contact.

The camp is from July 20-24 at the C.M. Russell High.

Washington State fires baseball coach

PULLMAN, Wash. – Washington State has fired baseball coach Donnie Marbut after 11 seasons.

Athletic director Bill Moos said Tuesday that a change is needed to return Cougar baseball to a position of prominence.

Marbut compiled a record of 314-304 at Washington State. That's the third-most wins in program history behind Bobo Brayton and Buck Bailey.

Marbut led the Cougars to two postseason appearances, in 2009 and 2010. This season he guided the Cougars to a 29-27 mark, 11-19 in Pac-12 play. That's the most wins by the program since going 37-22 in 2010.

The Cougars this spring were led by Kalispell lefty Joe Pistorese, a senior who was 8-5 with a 2.41 ERA. He fanned 67 in 104-plus innings.

Junior outfielder Ben Roberts of Missoula batted .211 with 7 doubles, 1 triple, 1 homer, 21 RBIs and 8 stolen bases.

Robbins named girls' hoop coach at Senior

BILLINGS – Zach Robbins has been named girls' basketball coach at Billings Senior, the Billings Gazette reported.

Robbins is also the boys' soccer coach for the Broncs.

Robbins succeeds former Bronc girls' coach Drew Haws, who became Senior's boys' basketball coach earlier this spring after Jim Wilsey stepped down.

The Senior girls went 19-6 and 15-10 in their two seasons under Haws.
