Brief ‘shelter in place’ at Chief Joseph School

Chief Joseph Elementary School was placed in “shelter in place” mode following reports of a gunshot in the vicinity at about 1:30 p.m. Thursday. The alert was lifted around 2 p.m., according to the Great Falls Police Department’s Facebook page.

According to police logs, a teacher reported hearing the shot, and an officer in the area heard it as well. Officers investigated the incident and determined there was no immediate threat in the area. No evidence of a shot being fired near the school was found, according to the logs.
