Regional briefs: Local baseball teams in action

Local ball teams in action Saturday and Sunday

The Great Falls Chargers “B” team will be in action Saturday and Sunday, starting with a 1 p.m. doubleheader Saturday afternoon against Helena at Centene Stadium. They will travel to Three Forks on Sunday for a twinbill with Gallatin Valley. It is also slated for a 1 p.m. start.

The Electric City Outlaws Senior Babe Ruth team will also be on the diamond Saturday in Noxon. That doubleheader also starts at 1.

The Lewistown Redbirds Legion club has a conference twinbill with the Billings Blue Jays on Saturday evening starting at 6 at Symmes Park in Lewistown.

The AA Chargers travel to Lewistown next Friday for a single nine-inning game against the Redbirds at 7, before starting their league campaign Sunday against the Scarlets in Billings.

The Chargers A will entertain the Lethbridge Miners in a pair of conference game next Saturday at 2 p.m. at Centene Stadium.

Gladiators have extra week off before finale

The Great Falls Gladiators will have an extra week off this week, after the entire Rocky Mountain Football League was idle last weekend in honor of the Memorial Day holiday.

Their final contest of the regular season comes next Saturday at noon when the Gladiators host the Gallatin Valley Snow Devils at noon at Paris Gibson Field.

The Gladiators are now 2-5 and will likely face either the Snow Devils or the Blackfoot Anarchy in a second-tier (consolation) playoff game later this month.

The Snow Devils, 2-4 and still in the hunt for a top-tier playoff berth, will entertain playoff-bound Laurel in the final regular season tilt for the Loco Express at the Belgrade Special Events Center.

Redbirds blank Great Falls Chargers A in Lewistown

LEWISTOWN – Hunter Schell drove in three runs while Cordell Gallagher and Eric Knox had two RBI each as the Lewistown Redbirds scored a 12-0 shutout Friday over the Great Falls Chargers A in nonleague Legion play at Symmes Park.

Luke Westbrook held the Chargers A to just two singles, by MJ Folds and Josh Smith. He fanned five and walked three.

Charger Bs roll past Conrad at Centene Stadium

Isaac Armstrong had a double and four RBI while Braden Hirst and Luke Bleskin drove home two each Friday night as the Great Falls Charger Bs rolled to a 19-4 victory over Conrad in an American Legion Class B game at Centene Stadium.

The Charger Bs scored six time in the first inning, and added four runs in each of the fourth and fifth frames.

averick Thomas, the second of four Charger B hurlers, got the win.

The Charger Bs will play host to Helena on Saturday in a 1 p.m. doubleheader.

Babinecz, Paladichuk make cut at State Match Play

HELENA – Cody Babinecz shot a 69 and Schafer Paladichuk had a 75 to make the 32-player cut Friday at the State Match Play championship at Green Meadow Country Club.
