Eagleton withdraws

July 31, 1972 — Democratic vice-presidential candidate Thomas Eagleton withdrew from the ticket with George McGovern following disclosures that Eagleton had once undergone psychiatric treatment.

Tribal member becomes superintendent

July 31, 1934 — Robert Yellowtail was installed as superintendent of the Crow Reservation becoming one of the first tribal members in the nation to become superintendent of a reservation.
