It’s time for a stay-cation and who better to hang out with than World Cup Champion Abby Wambach and Kelley Jakle, singer and actress from “Pitch Perfect?”

Instead of heading out of town for Labor Day weekend, kids of all ages can meet up with Wambach and Jakle Sept. 5 at Centene Stadium in Great Falls for Get Fit Great Falls’ fourth annual Come Out and Play event, which runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event is free.

Kids who attend will get into that night’s Voyagers game free. Wambach will throw out the first pitch and Jakle will sing the national anthem.

“When do you get to do that – in Great Falls, Montana,” said Lacey Gallagher co-coordinator for the event and Benefis Spirit of Women coordinator. “Rub elbows with one of the star of “Pitch Perfect” or a World Cup winner?”

Abby Wambach (20) heads the ball against Australia during the first half of a FIFA Women’s World Cup soccer match in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.

The games will include five fun sections for kids to rotate around the baseball field, including a cowboy-themed obstacle course, traditional Native American games, wiffle ball, 3 vs. 3 soccer and a fitness obstacle course. There will also be nutritional and educational booths. Registration starts at 9:30 a.m.

Jakle, who was a high school athlete who eventually chose a career in performing arts, joined the cast of Pitch Perfect because of her experience in the University of Southern California’s premiere a cappella group, the SoCal VoCals, which won the coveted International Competition of Collegiate Acappella in New York City twice during her tenure. She plays Barden Bella, Jessica, in “Pitch Perfect” with a recurring role in “Pitch Perfect 2.”

“She chose preforming arts, not sports. Kelley represents an audience of children that don’t see themselves as athletic,” Gallagher said.

Staying healthy is a huge part of Jakle’s success, she added.

Kelley Jackle stars in "Pitch Perfect" and "Pitch Perfect 2."

Wambach and the U.S. Women’s National team won the World Cup in Vancouver in July. She scored the game-winning goal against Nigeria in group play. She is the all-time leading goal scorer in international soccer history with 184 goals, 26 more than any other man or woman in history. She also is a two-time gold medalist with the U.S. Women’s soccer team and the 2012 FIFA World Player of the Year. Wambach, who has grown fond of Great Falls during her time in the Electric City, speaks about the importance of living healthy and being active.

During the morning camp, Wambach, Jakle and members of the Voyagers will motivate kids to live an active and healthy lifestyle.

Soccer star Abby Wambach autographs a soccer ball for Gavin Groshelle, 11, at the Elks Riverside Park Saturday during a Come Out and Play 2014 with Abby Wambach sponsored by Get Fit Great Falls.

That evening, pregame activities will include Jakle singing the national anthem at a Voyagers game and Wambach throwing out the first pitch. Each will do a radio broadcast interview during an inning and will sign autographs for fans. All camp attendees will join Wambach and Jakle on the field to sing “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” during the seventh-inning stretch.

Jakle has a strong connection to the national pastime. She is the great-granddaughter of Branch Rickey, legendary general manager of the Brooklyn Dodgers who was instrumental in helping Jackie Robinson integrate baseball. She appeared in the movie, “42,” the Jackie Robinson story.
