A Kalispell man is accused of stabbing a Vaughn man in the head and neck Tuesday night.

William Raymond Bedwell, 55, faces one charge of assault with a weapon, a felony. He was scheduled to make his initial court appearance Wednesday afternoon.

According to court documents, Bedwell and the reported victim, Timothy Kirk, were friends but had not seen each other in some time. The reports say the two men had drinks at a Vaughn bar Tuesday evening before returning to Kirk’s home for dinner.

The documents say Bedwell drank whiskey at Kirk’s home and became disrespectful. The reports say Bedwell called Kirk’s girlfriend multiple racial slurs aimed at Native Americans.

Kirk and his girlfriend told law enforcement they both told Bedwell to leave, but he refused.

Documents say Kirk got up from the table to use the restroom and Bedwell followed him. The female witness told law enforcement she saw Bedwell grab Kirk from behind, overpower him and stab him.

Kirk reported he fought Bedwell off, then Bedwell fell into a recliner and passed out. Court documents say Bedwell attempted to get up and attack Kirk again, but another male punched Bedwell to stop him.

Bedwell reportedly said “I’m not done yet,” and “I’m gonna hurt you,” when he attempted to get up.

According to the responding Cascade County sheriff’s deputy’s report, Kirk’s girlfriend was applying pressure to his wounds when the deputy arrived. The report says Kirk received emergency medical treatment, specifically six sutures to his neck and seven to his scalp.

The state requested Bedwell’s bail be set at $50,000.
