Montana and beef go together like burgers and buns.

We put the call out for burger recommendations and then started researching, one burger joint, cafe or restaurant at a time all across the state.

2K's Kafe of Great Falls

2K’s Kafe of Great Falls is known for its massive burgers.

The burger: The cheeseburger at 2K's seems like a regular burger, until one notices how little beef the bun covers.

The price: $9.50

The spot: Rightfully dubbed "Home of the Big Burger," 2K's is at 406 3rd Ave. S. in Great Falls. It's open 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Burger Bob's of Bozeman

Often voted Bozeman’s best burgers, the burgers at Burger Bob’s are famous.

The burger: The Original Bob is a third-pound of fresh Montana sirloin served on a Wheat Montana bun. If you're feeling extra hungry, try the Cardiac Arrest, a half-pound burger with four cheeses, mushrooms, onions and bacon.

The price: $6.99 ($10.99 combo)

The spot: Burger Bob's is at 43 W. Main St. in Bozeman. It's open 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Sunday-Thursday and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday-Saturday.

Wolfer's Diner of Havre

The burger and shakes at the Wolfer’s Diner of Havre are fresh and flavorful.

The burger: The fun '50s theme makes a milkshake practically a requirement with the Wolfer Burger (that's how they ate them in the good ol' days, right?). The signature burger of the diner, the Wolfer is a juicy half-pound.

The price: $8.50

The spot: Lace up your saddle shoes and slide into Wolfer's, downtown at 126 3rd Ave., Havre, and open 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Barnwood Steakhouse of White Sulphur Springs

The burger: The Barnwood Burger is outstanding, a half-pound patty of sausage and beef, topped with bacon, Swiss and American cheeses.

Price: $10.95

The spot: The Barnwood Steakhouse shares space with the Stockman Bar on Main Street in White Sulphur Springs. Burgers come off the grill 4:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. Wednesday-Monday.

Harvest Moon of Belt

The Arndt burger is made with sauerkraut at the Harvest Moon Saloon in Belt.

The burger: The popular Arndt burger may be a departure for most burger fans, but the sauerkraut and Swiss cheese are a fun, flavorful twist.

The price: $8.25

The spot: The Harvest Moon Saloon is cooking 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. at 71 Castner St. in Belt.

Angus Bar of Cascade

The jalapeno/cheddar burger at the Angus Bar in Cascade.


The burger: Cascade is known for good burgers and rightly so. The jalapeno cheddar burger, grilled at the Angus Bar.

The price: $8

The spot: The Angus Bar is open all day, daily at 16 Central Ave. W. in Cascade.

The Raven of Wood's Bay

The Montana Beer Burger is a popular option at the Raven in Wood’s Bay.

The burger: The Montana Beer Burger features an onion ring caramelized in Blackfoot IPA and melted cheddar tops crunch onion rings on a bun made by Ceres Bakery of Kalispell.

The price: $10.75

The spot: The location only makes the food more delicious. The Raven is waterfront in Wood's Bay, 4.5 miles south of Bigfork along Montana Highway 35. Patrons can kayak up to the restaurant on Flathead Lake or drive if you must.

The Nation's Burger Station of Browning

The southwest berry burger is a 1/3-pound beef patty topped with mesquite berry sauce, smokey cheddar, grilled onions and chipotle mayo on Native frybread ($6.25) at the Nation’s Burger Station in Browning.

The spot: The Nation's Burger Station is at 205 Central Ave., Browning. It's open for lunch and dinner.
