Yellowstone National Park plans safety checkpoints

CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Rangers in Yellowstone National Park intend to hold traffic safety checkpoints throughout the Labor Day weekend.

Officials say they checkpoints in the park will target traffic and safety violations and help to identify any impaired drivers.

Local law enforcement agencies will assist with the checkpoints. Officers will inspect tires, brakes, headlights, and taillights and look for proper use of seatbelts and child safety seats.

There are more than 300 miles of paved roads in Yellowstone, and park officials say driving conditions can be challenging because of high traffic volume, stopped vehicles, weather conditions, wildlife and people on roadways.
