Saturday’s Come Out and Play featuring World Cup Champion Abby Wambach and Kelley Jakle, singer and actress from “Pitch Perfect,” has been moved to Memorial Stadium due to the rain.

Lacey Gallagher, director of Get Fit Great Falls, said the decision to move the event was to protect the baseball field at Centene Stadium.

“We needed to change the venue because they’re trying to get the field ready for the Saturday evening game,” she said.

And if it is raining, Great Falls Public Schools, which made Memorial Stadium available, will allow the venue to move into the old gym at Great Falls High School.

“We have great partners in the community to help us pull together a location,” Gallagher said.

In other words, the show will go on.

Kids of all ages can meet up with Wambach and Jakle on Saturday at Memorial Stadium in Great Falls for Get Fit Great Falls’ fourth annual Come Out and Play event, which runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event, now at 1900 2nd Ave S., is free.

Kids who attend will get into that night’s Voyagers game for free. Wambach will throw out the first pitch and Jakle will sing the national anthem.

“When do you get to do that — in Great Falls, Montana?” said Gallagher, co-coordinator for the event and Benefis Spirit of Women coordinator. “Rub elbows with one of the star of ‘Pitch Perfect’ or a World Cup winner?”

The games will include five fun sections for kids to rotate around the baseball field, including a cowboy-themed obstacle course, traditional Native American games, Wiffle ball, 3 vs. 3 soccer and a fitness obstacle course. There will also be nutritional and educational booths. Registration starts at 9:30 a.m.

Jakle, who was a high school athlete who eventually chose a career in performing arts, joined the cast of “Pitch Perfect” because of her experience in the University of Southern California’s premiere a cappella group, the SoCal VoCals, which won the coveted International Competition of Collegiate Acappella in New York City twice during her tenure. She plays Barden Bella in “Pitch Perfect” with a recurring role in “Pitch Perfect 2.”

“She chose preforming arts, not sports. Kelley represents an audience of children that don’t see themselves as athletic,” Gallagher said.

Staying healthy is a huge part of Jakle’s success, she added.

Wambach and the U.S. Women’s National team won the World Cup in Vancouver in July. She scored the game-winning goal against Nigeria in group play. She is the all-time leading goal scorer in international soccer history with 184 goals, 26 more than any other man or woman in history. She also is a two-time gold medalist with the U.S. Women’s soccer team and the 2012 FIFA World Player of the Year. Wambach, who has grown fond of Great Falls during her time in the Electric City, speaks about the importance of living healthy and being active.

During the morning camp, Wambach, Jakle and members of the Voyagers will motivate kids to live an active and healthy lifestyle.

That evening at the Voyagers game, each will do a radio broadcast interview during an inning and will sign autographs for fans. All camp attendees will join Wambach and Jakle on the field to sing “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” during the seventh-inning stretch.

Jakle has a strong connection to the national pastime. She is the great-granddaughter of Branch Rickey, legendary general manager of the Brooklyn Dodgers who was instrumental in helping Jackie Robinson integrate baseball. She appeared in the movie, “42,” the Jackie Robinson story.
