KOKOMO, Ind. (AP) – A Montana man who was intoxicated when he caused a crash that seriously injured a couple and their two children has been sentenced to an 8-year prison term.

Forty-five-year-old William D. Spence of Butte was sentenced Friday to 10 years, with two of those years on probation. He had pleaded guilty to all nine charges he faced.

The Kokomo Tribune reports Spence had a blood-alcohol content of 0.12, above Indiana’s legal limit, in July when his truck sped through a Kokomo intersection and collided with a van, seriously injuring a couple and their two daughters.

The couple told a Howard County judge that they both suffered permanent injuries and their 8-year-old daughter was thrown from the van and has a permanent scar on her forehead and other injuries.
