Volunteer for annual Stand Down for Vets

Special to the Tribune

Hundreds of area veterans receive food, health screenings and other services at the Stand Down for Vets event that runs from Sept. 17-19.

But hundreds of volunteers are needed to make the event a success. Volunteers help with setup, cleanup, giving veterans rides to and from the Montana ExpoPark’s Mercantile Building and other behind-the-scenes work.

The three-day event provides supplies and services to homeless veterans, including food, shelter, clothing, health screenings and VA Social Security benefits counseling. It also provides local veterans with a hot meal, a haircut and dental check for free.

Veterans will also be connected to local services that can provide job training and other support.

If you want to help take care of our veterans, volunteer for this great annual event. Call Barbara at 452-2209 for more information.

Information about this and other volunteer opportunities is available at United Way of Cascade County’s website, www.volunteergreatfalls.org.

Between the website and managing the Retired Senior Volunteer Program, United Way is now where all agencies that need volunteers can go and people of all ages who are interested in volunteering can look for opportunities.

Volunteers can search opportunities on the www.volunteergreatfalls.org website by their interests and availability, and they can also call 727-3400 to learn about opportunities and organizations that need help.

Cascade County nonprofits are encouraged to register and post their volunteer opportunities on the site, whether they are a one-time event or an ongoing opportunity.
