Starting this week, every Thursday throughout the football season, our staff will rank the top five football teams in each of the five high school classifications.

We’ll call it the “Tribune Top 25” and all levels, AA, A, B, C and Six-Man, will be featured.

This week’s top teams are Helena High (AA), Whitefish (A), Townsend (B), Ennis (C) and Denton-Geyser-Stanford (Six-Man).

To open the season, the Bengals of head coach Tony Arntson traveled into Kalispell and came out with a victory over the defending champion Wolfpack. Whitefish, meanwhile, dominated a solid Havre team on the road to spoil Mark Samson’s debut. The Bulldogs of Townsend, the Class B defending state champions, were idle last week; Ennis steamrolled Broadview-Lavina; and Denton-Geyser-Stanford did the same to Augusta.
