The McDonald’s at 1710 3rd St. N.W. will be torn down to make way for newer, larger restaurant.

The Great Falls westside McDonald’s, built in the 1970s, will close on Feb. 28 and demolition will start March 1, said Casey Schearer, director of operation for McDonald’s in Great Falls.

The new restaurant will be similar to the McDonald’s on 10th Avenue South, with a four-level play structure and three drive through windows.

The 70 employees will work at other Great Falls McDonald’s stores during construction.

“We also have some charitable work lined up that employees will be doing,” Schearer said. “Once we reopen, we will need to hire an additional 40 employees for that store, so we need to keep all the employees we have now.”

The westside McDonald’s has a loyal clientele who have been getting updates and giving input for the new restaurant, Schearer said.

“It’s a close knit group, we have about 40 regulars in the coffee crowd there,” he said. “There are a lot of stories in that store. Many of them want some kind of memorabilia.”

Guy Tabacco Construction is the general contractor for the project.
