Vote for Prep Athletes of the Week

Wrestlers across the state took the mat at divisional tournaments to begin the first postseason of the winter, while hoopsters continued to battle it out on the hardwood as we get closer and closer to tournament time.

Polls close at 10 p.m. on Tuesday.

Here are the nominees for the boys:

  • Rylan Moldenhauer, Great Falls High wrestling: The junior earned the top spot at 205 pounds at the Eastern AA Divisional Meet in Bozeman, grabbing a 7-5 overtime victory in the finals.
  • Parker Filius, Havre wrestling: The top-ranked 152 pounder in Class A downed third ranked Alex Wickens of Lewistown by major decision in the finals of the Eastern A Divisional Tournament on Saturday.
  • Briggs Judd, Centerville basketball: Judd scored a team-high 39 points over two wins for the Miners, including a 25-point output in a victory over Roy-Winifred.

And the girls:

  • Brooke Nicholson, Chinook basketball: The senior scored a game-high 30 points for the Sugarbeeters, leading Chinook to a 71-29 win over Harlem on Thursday.
  • Sierra Johnson, Dutton-Brady basketball: Johnson put up 23 points, over half of her team’s total of 41, as the DiamondBacks defeated Valier on Friday.
  • Alyssa LaMere, Box Elder basketball: LaMere poured in a game-high 20 points as the Bears dropped Fort Benton 76-37 on Friday to remain undefeated.

All athletes nominated for Prep Athlete of the Week will be spotlighted at the Tribune’s Sports Awards Banquet on June 11. The event will be sponsored by Benefis Health System, which also serves as the weekly sponsor of this poll.
