Jockey in accident in ‘fair’ condition
By Tribune Staff
The condition of a jockey who was seriously injured in a horse race at Montana ExpoPark is now “fair,” according to a Benefis Health System spokeswoman.
Bill Christian was injured when his mount fell during a race Sunday during the Montana State Fair.
The horse, an 8-year-old called Vader Grade, suffered a shoulder injury and was euthanized.
Horses had just passed the grandstand and were on the first turn during the 5.25-furlong race.
Kelly Manzer, director of racing for the Great Falls Turf Club, called it a “freak accident.”
Christian’s condition initially was listed as serious.
As of Wednesday, it was upgraded fair, said Karen Ogden, a Benefis spokeswoman.
