Governor orders flags at half-staff Friday for Burns

TRIBUNE CAPITOL BUREAU

Gov. Steve Bullock has ordered all flags flown in the state at half-staff on Friday for 24 hours to honor the memory of former U.S. Sen. Conrad Burns, 81, who died Thursday of natural causes.

“Sen. Burns was a dedicated father, husband, Marine and public servant,” Bullock said. “He was a fierce advocate for all of Montana. His legacy and his work are enshrined in the farms and ranches, cities and towns, and the people and places throughout this great state.”

The funeral service for the three-term senator will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Metra Park Arena in Billings.

The public may attend.

His family requests that anyone wishing to make a donation in his honor to make them to Shriners Hospitals for Children, your local food bank or the Kate Burns Memorial Scholarship through the Atonement Lutheran Church in Billings.

Cards can be sent to the family c/o U.S. Rep. Ryan Zinke’s office at 222 N. 32nd St., Suite 900, Billings, MT, 59101.
