Argos defeat Montana State Billings

BILLINGS – TJ Harris and Darren Lockett each had big scoring nights to lead the University of Great Falls men to an 89-84 victory in double overtime over the NCAA Division II Montana State Billings Yellowjackets here Tuesday night.

The Argos of first-year coach Anthony Owens rallied from a seven-point halftime deficit and improved to 8-2 on the season. MSU Billings, losing to an NAIA Frontier Conference club for the fourth time this year, fell to 0-5.

Harris scored 23 points and Lockett added 21. Matthew Hurn added 11 and Sigman Farmer scored 10. Steven Daho had 15 rebounds.

The game was tied at 69 at regulation and at 79 following the first overtime. Antoine Hosley scored 31 for the Jackets, who have lost twice to Rocky Mountain and once to Carroll this season.

The Argos don't play again until Dec. 6 against Grand Canyon in Phoenix.

Grizzly men meet Carroll in Missoula

MISSOULA – The Montana Grizzlies, fresh off a victory Sunday in Seattle, play their home opener tonight with a clash against Frontier Conference foe Carroll College.

Tipoff is 7 p.m. here at the Adams Center.

Carroll, coached by Carson Cunningham, is 9-2. The NAIA club is led by Zach Taylor, a 6-foot senior guard who is averaging 17.4 ppg. Freshman swingman Oliver Carr is averaging 15.7 ppg.

The Grizzlies, under first-year coach Travis DeCuire, are coming off a 66-62 victory at Seattle. Junior forward Martin Breunig, a transfer from Washington, led UM with 15 points and eight rebounds. Brandon Gfeller canned five 3-pointers off the bench for the Griz.

Montana is 1-2, including a double-overtime loss at Boise State last week and a season-opening defeat at Colorado State.

Senior stars pace AA All-State volleyball

Senior middle hitter Taylor Mims is among five members of Class AA state champion Billings Senior to be named AA first team All-State.

Senior Libbey Fellows of Great Falls High was named to the second team. She was the only Electric City player honored on the All-State team.

Fellows was named first-team all-Eastern AA. Among those named honorable mention all-conference were Bailey Ferda of GFH, and Adrianna Hennessey, Trisha Carlson, Katia Michelotti, and Kierstine Evenson, of C.M. Russell High.

MSU Bobcat women fall at San Diego

SAN DIEGO – Jasmine Hommes scored 21 points but the Montana State women fell to the University of San Diego 79-64 here Tuesday night.

The Bobcats of coach Tricia Binford fell to 2-3 on the season, while San Diego improved to 4-0.

Jackie Elliott had seven points and 10 rebounds for MSU. Malina Hood scored 20 for San Diego.
