Vote here for Prep Athletes of the Week

Mark D. Robertson

Short and sweet, because there isn't much time or room for extra ink in the Monday Tribune.

It was a busy Sunday for sports in Great Falls, thanks mostly to the 36th Annual Ice Breaker Road Race. Also, the University of Great Falls softball team finished out its regular season with a sweep, and the Great Falls Chargers made it three in a row with a sweep of their own.

But none of those segue into our Prep Athletes of the Week, so we'll just jump right in.

Please remember to head over to gftrib.com to cast your vote. If you click on the story and the polls do not appear, simply refresh the page to make them do so.

This week's girls' nominees are:

Ember Schwindt, of Cascade track. The sophomore won both the high jump (4 feet, 10 inches) and the 400 (1:02.87) at the Fairfield-Belt Invite in Great Falls this past weekend. Schwindt edged Belt's Sara Anderson by just five-hundredths of a second at the finish line in the 400.

Hannah King, of Choteau track. King rattled off victories in both the 100 and 300 hurdles in Cut Bank on Wednesday and again at the Fairfield-Belt meet Saturday. She also anchored the Bulldogs' winning 4x100 relay Saturday afternoon.

Myla Robbins, of C.M. Russell softball. Robbins collected six runs batted in, a double and a home run in the Rustlers' 3-0 week. Her eighth-inning, two-run double Tuesday lifted CMR over Great Falls High in a 5-2 decision.

This week's boys' nominees are:

Teagan Olson, of Great Falls High track. Olson recorded personal bests in both the mile (4:33) and 2-mile (10:00) in Helena Saturday before turning around Sunday to finish fifth overall in the Ice Breaker's 5-mile leg. The freshman's efforts Saturday are rewarded with state meet qualifications.

Brock Butcher, of Fergus High track. The Lewistown speedster won both the 200 and 400-meter dash events at the Eagles' home meet. He was also second in the 100.

Bridger Martin, of Shelby golf. Martin carded a 2-over 72 to easily win the Cut Bank Invite last week. The Coyote golfer was five strokes ahead of second.
