CHOTEAU – The Teton County Food Pantry and the Fairfield School Pantry reported more than 700 pounds of game meat donated this season by Montana hunters.

Statewide, about 10,000 pounds has been reported donated to the Montana Food Bank Network, said Jeff Gutierrez, who said he will be logging donations into January.

Last year, donations topped 38,000 pounds of meat and the state looks to be on course in the second year of program, in which hunters can donate meat and pay an extra fee when applying for hunting license toward processing game.

Cascade and Gallatin counties have logged the most donations so far.
