Lethbridge, McCoy reach Taleff finale

The Lethbridge Giants jumped out to an 11-2 lead after two innings and finished with a 15-6 win over the Great Falls Chargers A in the first semifinal game of the 41st annual Tom Taleff Memorial Tournament Sunday at Centene Stadium.

The Giants will play Medicine Hat’s Monsignor McCoy High School for the tourney championship Monday at noon, after McCoy’s 14-0 victory over the Electric City Outlaws in the late semifinal game.

Dawson Ambrus, who was credited with the win despite only working 32/3 innings of the five-inning contest, held the Chargers A to just three hits but gave up eight of the 11 walks received by Great Falls hitters. At the plate, Colton Wuerfulhad two hits and drove in five, while Logan Ramsdell had two RBI on a 4-for-5 performance.

Cal Cromwell and Josh Lowrey each had an RBI single for the Chargers, who will play in the third-place game against the Outlaws at 9 a.m.

The Colts’ Brady Close struck out four and gave up only two hits in the five-inning contest. Braydon Pudwell, Nathan Schlacter and Theryn Berndt each drove in two runs for the winners.

Earlier, the Chargers A handed the Electric City Outlaws their first loss of the tournament win a 4-1 win behind a complete game eight-hitter from Brayden Welty and RBI singles from Jordan Smith and Tucker Pietrykowski. Welty struck out six and walked two.

Peyton Mitchel’s RBI double in the fifth accounted for the Outlaws’ only tally. Joey Greene and Seth Dabler each had two hits. Starter Joe Maney took the loss.

McCoy downed Lethbridge 12-5 in five innings as Brendan Kuhn drove in four with a single and a triple.
