Two people were killed in a single vehicle crash Friday on U.S.-89 near Armington Junction.

A male from Illinois was driving a motorcycle southbound with a female passenger, also from Illinois, when they struck a deer, according to Trooper Michael Flood with the Montana Highway Patrol.

Flood said the motorcycle then went off the right side of the road and struck several trees.

Both people were pronounced dead at the scene, Flood said. Neither were wearing helmets, but it’s known at this time if speed or alcohol were a factor in the crash that occurred at about 11 a.m., Flood said.

A section of the highway was closed for about 30 minutes to allow Mercy Flight to land, but the highway is now open in both directions to traffic, Flood said.
