The Buzz: Dec. 19 new target opening date for Eden Market

After a couple of months of delay because of an unexpected hurdle, the opening date for Eden Market, 5435 Lower River Road, is the week of Dec. 19.

Owner Maarika Amado-Cattaneo originally had planned to open a grocery store and deli at Trailer Terrace in September in a building that last housed the Outback Country Store.

However, that date was pushed back when she learned the business could not open unless the zoning on the property was changed.

The Cascade County Commissioners voted to do that Tuesday.

“We are finally over the hurdle and can get back to putting our little Eden Market together for opening,” Amado-Cattaneo said.

Inventory orders and appointments for inspections were canceled until the zoning change vote was complete, so the opening date is still tentative.

Eden Market will serve the 3,000 some people who live south of Great Falls in the communities just east of the Missouri River, who now have to drive five miles for a gallon of milk.

Eden Market will be a convenience story, but will also carry fresh produce, paninis, baked goods, fresh salads, beer, wine and some canned goods, balsamic vinegar and some other goods from Europe.

Amado-Cattaneo came to the U.S. from Estonia with her family when she was 9.
