Bobcats fall despite Hall’s 42 points

BOZEMAN – A career night from a young star wasn’t enough for the Montana State men’s basketball team.

Despite a career-best 42 points from sensational sophomore Tyler Hall, the Bobcats fell 83-78 here Monday night to University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, snapping a nine-game winning streak at Worthington Arena that dates back to last season.

Hall shot an exceptional 60 percent from the floor (15-25) on the night, hitting 6 of 12 3-point attempts on top of a 6 for 7 showing at the free throw line, but the Bobcats (5-4) trailed for a majority of the contest.

The rest of the MSU lineup couldn’t seem to get shots to fall, as Zach Green finished second in scoring for the Bobcats with 10 points.

Milwaukee (3-5) of the Horizon League saw four players enter double figures, led by Cameron Harvey with 17 points, followed by Brett Prahl with 13, while Cody Wichmann and Jeremiah Bell chipped in 12 points apiece.

The Panthers dominated the Bobcats on the glass as well, winning the rebound battle 37-25 and shot a blistering 65 percent from 3-point range (13 for 20), hitting over 50 percent from the floor all together.

The Cats trailed by just six at the half, led by Hall’s 17 points in the frame, but saw the Panthers pull ahead by as many as 19 points about midway through the second half.

Hall, who is averaging over 22 points per game this season, nailed a 3 with just over 14 seconds to go to bring it within four points at 79-75, but four makes at the foul line by Wichmann iced the contest.

MSU hits the road for a contest with South Dakota on Wednesday at 7:15 p.m.
