Northern B Girls: Fairfield knocks off Rocky Boy to reach finals

GLASGOW – The Fairfield girls are back in the Northern B Divisional championship game.

The Eagles scored a 54-41 victory over the Rocky Boy Morning Stars in Friday’s early semifinal, and will take on Malta in the title game Saturday at 8 at Glasgow High School. The M-Ettes hammered Choteau 52-24 in the late game.

The Stars will face Shelby in an elimination game Saturday morning at 9:30, while Wolf Point will battle the Bulldogs at 11. The morning winners face off for third place at 6:30.

Senior Natalie Klinker drained 21 points to lead all scorers for Fairfield, who had to battle back from a 30-22 halftime deficit and outscored the Morning Stars 32-11 over the final 16 minutes.

Allix Goldhahn added 13 and Kaitlyn Jones had 10 for the Eagles. Adrienne Gopher led Rocky Boy with 18 while Rosie Parker added 10.

For Malta, Sophia Stiles notched three 3-pointers and finished with a game high 14 markers. Eva Harms and Jada Nicholson tossed in 12 points each.

Malta raced out to a 17-6 lead after one quarter and never looked back, increasing the lead to 25-13 at the break.

Whitney Durocher led the Bulldogs with seven points.

In loser-out action earlier Friday, both Shelby and Wolf Point earned victories.

Shelby got five 3-pointers and 17 points from Abbey Aklestad en route to a 58-48 victory over Glasgow, while Mahala Shawl scored 14 as Wolf Point ousted Poplar 41-37.

Shelby’s Skyler Martin poured in 22 points, including a 13-for-19 effort at the foul stripe, as the Coyotes stayed in contention for a State B berth. Ashton Daniels scored nine.

Khloe Krumwiede had 16 points for Glasgow. Lenie Hughes added 12 for the Scotties.

Shawl connected on three 3-pointers for Wolf Point. Aubrey Zilkoski and Brenna Kurokawa combined for 15 points. Chloe Shields scored 10 for Poplar. Alleen Russell and Imani Bighorn combined for 17 points.
